Breakfast Club

Smawthorne Henry Moore Primary School Breakfast Club aims to provide pupils of all ages with a safe and fun place to start their school day. Breakfast Club is open to all pupils and we will do our best to accommodate the needs of your child.

The club is informal and friendly, allowing children a choice as to how they start the day: some children like to wake up slowly; others prefer to get on and play. The club provides a range of activities to suit all ages – from nursery to year six including:

  • Arts and crafts;

  • Plasticine/modelling;

  • Lego;

  • Meccano/construction;

  • Ball games;

  • Team Games;

  • Outside provision (Weather permitting);

  • Board games;

  • Homework opportunities;

  • Library activities.

Each morning a nutritious breakfast is provided, a choice of hot or cold options, a variety of fresh fruit and cereals, milk, fruit juices and toast with a selection of preservatives. The children are encouraged to help themselves, sit down and talk together, and then clear up their dishes: the idea is that our breakfast replicates as far as possible the atmosphere of a family meal. At the end of the session, the children are well fed, happy and ready to learn.

Cost

Breakfast Club has a fixed cost of £2.00 per session, which includes a choice of breakfast and fun activities. The cost is the same whether or not your child chooses to have breakfast.

Opening Times

We are open from 7.45-8.45 am every weekday during term time (excluding Inset days). Your child(ren) can be dropped off at any time between these times via the year 5 entrance.  However, if your child wishes to have breakfast, please ensure that he/she arrives by 8.20am at the latest.

Food

We provide unlimited food and we encourage all children to eat and drink something. Everyday we offer:

    • A choice of at least 3 different cereals;

    • Toast with a selection of spreads (e.g. Jams, Honey and chocolate spread);

    • Fruit juice, milk (soya available on request) and water;

    • A choice of fresh fruit;

    • Spagetti/beans on toast;

    • Yoghurt;

    • Porridge.

      Occasionally, the menu is supplemented with seasonal treats: different bakery goods or foods from around the world to reflect the curriculum in school. Where possible, any special diets will be catered for.

Staff

The Breakfast Club is run by five staff members: Mrs Mountain, Miss Appleyard, Mrs Kirkbright, Mrs Lisle and Miss Barnsley. All members of staff hold appropriate qualifications in first aid and food hygiene.

Communication

We aim for each child to be happy and comfortable at the breakfast club. You can help us by providing as much information as possible about their likes/dislikes on their registration form.

Any information relevant to a particular day can be discussed briefly at drop-off. If you have any more detailed issues that you would like to discuss with club staff, then you can arrange a mutually convenient time for a telephone call or short meeting outside of the club's operation times.

As you will appreciate, the breakfast club staff have several children to look after and cannot pass individual messages on to class teachers. If there is something that the class teacher needs to know, then please write a note or call the school office.
