Music Intent Statement

Through The Smawthorne Experience, our music curriculum is designed to develop young musicians by enhancing children’s knowledge and confidence through a variety of different experiences, allowing all children to be involved in a range of opportunities to deepen their own exposure to a variety of music genres. Children are given the opportunity to perform in different locations within the local and wider community. The music curriculum we offer is inclusive to all children throughout the school. Our aim is to ensure that the children are given a musical gateway that allows them to progress and develop into lifelong musicians.

Working in Partnership with Wakefield Music Hub

We are proud to work with the Wakefield Music Hub to provide specialist music teaching to our pupils. The children are currently enjoying Samba and percussion sessions. The Music Hub has also completed specialist workshops to all pupils using steel pans and percussion. Staff are trained by the Hub's specialist as we believe quality CPD will support the delivery of the music curriculum.

Cultural Capital:

Our children deserve the very best and so it is important to us that we develop an appreciation of the very best. In music that has led us to develop an appreciation of classical composers. We are learning about their achievements and developing an understanding of how music has changed over time.
