Design and Technology

 

  • Children are expected to make good progress at the end of the Foundation Stage in the area of ' understanding the world' in line withe the new Early Years Curriculum 2012.
  • Changes to the Design Technology Curriculum we made in September 2014. The emphasis is now on designing for a purpose, producing functional models by communicating ideas and researching existing products.
  • Children are asked to produce drawings; make decisions on the best materials; use their skills to connect and build and  use a range of equipment such as saws and glue guns. Children are taught how to effectively evaluate existing products,  discussing  and suggesting ideas on how products can be changed and improved to suit a given purpose.
  • They explore how to build structures, how can they be made stronger, stiffer and more stable exploring the use of  mechanisms, levers,  wheels and axles.
  • Children are now taught how to cook to instill a love of cooking. The importance of healthy eating is highlighted by cooking nutritious and well balanced meals, that include a range of food groups with children being made aware of various of food.
