Religious Education

The aims of our curriculum is:

  • To develop pupils’ knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other principal religions.
  • To encourage our children to learn from different religions, beliefs, values and traditions whilst exploring their own beliefs and questioning new principles.
  • To develop the children’s sense of identity and belonging.
  • To enable children to show respect and be sensitive to others, in particular those whose faiths and beliefs are different from their own.
  • To promote children's spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
  • To provide an enriching insight into the wonderful world around them.
  • To engage with people of different cultures and religions both in school and within our local community.
  • To understand how religion affects society today and impacts on our everyday life.
  • Smawthorne Henry Moore Primary School adopts the Wakefield Local Authority Religious Education syllabus.

" All religions must be tolerated... for every man must get to heaven in his own way."
